A practical prompt guide

Write clearer prompts for images, edits and video. Build a brief, copy a template, check model settings and improve one detail at a time.

Describe the result you want, then separate creative instructions from settings. These templates are starting points to adapt and review, not examples of generated results.

Create an image

Start with one subject and a clear setting. Specify framing, light and materials. Add only the details that matter to your intended use.

Subject + setting + composition + light + constraints

Example to adapt

A blue ceramic cup on a pale wooden table beside a window. Close-up at table height, soft morning side light, visible ceramic texture. Leave empty space on the right; no lettering or extra objects.

Edit an existing image

Name what must stay before describing the change and its location. With multiple references, explain the role of each image. Check the result for unintended changes.

Keep + change + location + reference roles + constraints

Example to adapt

Keep the cup, its shape, color and position. Replace only the tabletop with pale stone. Match the existing perspective and light. Keep the background and framing unchanged; add no new objects.

Plan a video shot

Describe one shot: the starting scene, subject movement and camera movement. Set duration in the controls. Request audio only when the selected model supports it.

Starting scene + subject action + camera motion + ending

Example to adapt

A blue ceramic cup sits on a pale wooden table beside a window. Steam rises gently while the camera slowly moves closer. Keep the cup still and the light consistent. End on a close-up of the rim, with no cuts or new objects.

Before you generate

  1. Check the chosen model’s reference limits, dimensions, duration and audio support in the controls.
  2. Remove conflicting instructions. For edits, review both the changed area and the parts you asked to preserve.
  3. Review the quote before confirming. Change one instruction at a time when comparing results.

Common questions

Can a prompt set resolution or output count?

Use the available controls for resolution, aspect ratio, duration and output count. Writing a setting in the prompt does not enable a capability the selected model does not support.

Will an edit preserve every original pixel?

A prompt describes intent; it does not guarantee pixel preservation. Review the output. Use a dedicated tool with explicit region protection when that requirement matters.
